| LABYRINTH VARIATIONS |
As the awareness and use of labyrinths continues to grow, there seems
to be an evolving number of variations originating from the two basic designs
- Cretan (or Classical) and
Chartres. This webpage is dedicated to tracking these
variations.
CRETAN (CLASSICAL) CHARTRES
I urge everyone to visit The Labyrinth Society's new Labyrinth Types Index which has attempted to identify and classify the numerous variations of labyrinth designs made through the ages all the way up to the present time. (Be sure to look in "The Medieval Group" section under"Contemporary Medieval" designs for the Chalice Labyrinth!)

A new labyrinth experience and variation is coming into existence called...The Prayer Path (marketed by a Christian resource center called Group Publishing). It is an "interactive" labyrinth that uses "eleven stations" to provide a mixture of rituals and visuals, of contemplative words and contemporary ambient music, of symbols and media to help guide the spiritual traveller. To read one walker's experience with this labyrinth form, go to this article link.
It appears that the Prayer Path labyrinth is also being used around England with fabulous results where it is called The Cathedral Labyrinth.
I saw an article in the Atlanta newspaper (March, 2002) where the Prayer Path labyrinth was used by a Christian church during Holy Week. I understand that it has also been in use in Indiana for over a year. I recommend checking out this new labyrinth variation.
