“The labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path… Where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we will be with all the world.”

- Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth

Jung compared ancient archetypes to riverbeds, that dry up when the water deserts them, but which can be filled again at any time. If labyrinths often symbolize the unconscious and labyrinths have remained dormant for 350 years, why are labyrinths now re-emerging worldwide as part of a consciousness raising movement? Why are ancient labyrinths being re-discovered and new ones being co-created by the thousands? How are labyrinths being used as tools for shadow work, transformation, and healing? Why is the symbolism and imagery so powerful? This slide lecture will be a multidimensional journey to examine these questions. Annette will demonstrate how to draw a labyrinth for us to take home and explore.

Annette Reynolds, MPS, RN, ATR-BC, is the founder and director of the Labyrinth Project of Alabama and Southeast and is a certified Labyrinth Veriditas facilitator. She is a founding member, board member, past officer, and was the 2001 Conference Chair for the Labyrinth Society. Annette co-creates labyrinths in their many forms and has presented hundreds of labyrinth events nationally and internationally. She has authored many labyrinth articles and her work has been featured in videos, magazines, newspapers, and TV.

Annette is a Board Certified Art Therapist, RN, and has worked as a hospital chaplain. She serves as president of the Alabama Art Therapy Association and as a board member of Friends of Jung-South. Her work is multidimensional, weaving together the physical, emotional, and spiritual. Annette believes that the creative process in itself is healing and that everyone’s life is art.
